Missing e 2.12.0: Fix for Magnifier feature
Included in Missing e 2.12.0 is a fix for the Magnifier feature that stopped working earlier today. The fix I’ve implemented is not 100% tested, but I wanted to get something working out to you sooner.
I’ve also made a few other small fixes, including improving the spacing of wrapped tags that was affected by a recent Tumblr change.
Most browsers will automatically update, but if you want the new version now, you can update here: missing-e.com/update

Firefox Users
A recent change to the Firefox tools that are used to create this extension have caused Missing e to be no longer be compatible with Firefox versions below 13. I will look into this to see if I can restore backwards compatibility, but it is worthwhile to keep Firefox up-to-date anyway. You should be able to update Firefox from your browser’s menu.
Missing e version 2.2.0 restores tag reblogging in the Better Reblogs feature.
Missing e was the first tool to allow you to automatically add an original post’s tags when reblogging. For a few months, Tumblr attempted to implement this feature themselves, but recently they’ve removed it for whatever reason.
Full control over tag reblogging has been restored in Missing e version 2.2.0.
In the settings (which you can access like this), under Better Reblogs you can configure how you’d like your Tumblr reblogs to behave!
These are the settings:
- Keep original post tags when reblogging
- When this is on, tags from the original post will be carried over (automatically or manually, see the following setting)
- Automatically add original tags to reblog post
- When this is on (and the “Keep original post tags when reblogging” setting is also on), the original tags are automatically added in the new reblog post.
- When this is off (and the “Keep original post tags when reblogging” setting is still on), the original tags are not automatically added to the new reblog post, but you can manually add them by clicking on the “Reblog Tags” button.
Not only are tags on dashboard posts rebloggable, but also when you reblog a post from the post’s permalink page (like this one). However, Missing e uses Tumblr’s RSS feed to get the tags for posts when you reblog from the permalink page, so it takes a moment.
When the reblog button is replaced with this, it is ready to be reblogged with tags:
If for some reason, Tumblr’s servers are not responding, Missing e will retry getting the tags. After a few attempts, the reblog button will be replaced with this, to indicate that tags will not be reblogged this time:
Note that this only applies to post permalink pages. Tag reblogging will always work when reblogging from the dashboard!
If you’ve previously configured tag reblogging to your preferences in the settings, the new version of Missing e will automatically take your choice into consideration when updating.
If you want the new version immediately, DO NOT uninstall and reinstall Missing e, instead, read the instructions on how to update:
Firefox users: Until the new version of the extension is reviewed by the Mozilla Add-Ons site, you can update just by installing the new version over top of your existing one, from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/missing-e/versions/

Missing e version 2.0.5
A handful of new features for you!
Spanish Localization
Missing e’s features now support the Tumblr Spanish language interface (which is now in beta)
Thanks to xn—lhutemoc-skbd for help with the translations.
Timestamps are Back
Now that Tumblr is adding post times to your posts on the dash, Missing e is able to improve it by:
- Converting the Tumblr timestamp to your custom format and displaying it visibly on the dashboard
- Display the timestamp in your local time zone (not EST/EDT)
Note: This feature is highly dependent on Tumblr’s new post time implementation, which is fairly new. If they change it in the future, Timestamps will not work correctly until I can fix it.
Automatic Tagging of Queued Posts
Now, you can automatically tag any post with whatever tags you choose whenever you queue it!
- This feature is disabled by default!
- If you want to use it after you’ve updated to 2.0.5, go into the settings (find out how) to enable it
- You will find this setting in the Post Features tab, in the Posting Fixes section
This feature most recently suggested by thedoktah
Mass Draft/Queue Post Deletion
Much like the mass delete option in the Ask Fixes feature, you can use this to select multiple posts in your Drafts or Queue pages.
- Simply click on the checkboxes to select all the posts you want to delete and click the “Delete Selected” button in your sidebar!
Thanks to mangtimang for the feature suggestion (from a long time ago)!
If you want the new version immediately, DO NOT uninstall and reinstall Missing e, instead, read the instructions on how to update:
For Firefox users only (IMPORTANT): I am still having trouble with the Mozilla Add-Ons site. Please use this direct link to update: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/130218/missing_e-2.0.8-fx.xpi (I have also changed the Firefox button on the Missing e homepage to point there).

Tag Wrapping and Optional Tag Reblogging
I forgot to mention this in the previous post (I’ve added it in, though).
Version 2.0.0 of Missing e has fixed a couple of things
- The tag wrapping option will now work with Tumblr’s new implementation.
- The Better Reblogs feature will now allow you to control whether or not tags are automatically reblogged (works with Tumblr’s new tag reblogging feature).
Find these and more in the Missing e settings page. Find out how to get there!
Are you wondering what I was taking about when I started gushing about a fantastic suggestion from lizzledpink?
It would be this! She’s helped me find a really great way for me to enable tags on ask posts when you are answering them (without having to “queue” it or “publish” it and then go back to edit it)!
I’m still working out the kinks, but we’ll be seeing this feature soon!
Q:Hey! Did you think about improving the tracked tags? I mean, sometimes the numbers stay displayed even though you've checked the tags already.
xx
I think that one is way out of Missing e’s purview. Tumblr’s Tracked Tags are by no means perfect, but there is almost no sure way for a browser extension to know if that number is correct or not without a lot of overhead and input from you. It would be pretty annoying (more annoying than the tracked tag counts already can be, sometimes). The only way to address this is on Tumblr’s end, I think.
I hope Tumblr’s developers can spend a little time on the Tracked Tags. In addition to the numbers not being correct all the time, and tagged posts not always showing up in those searches, the thing that really makes them difficult to use is the fact that there is no way to correctly track a tag with a hyphen (minus sign, ‘-‘) in it. It just interprets those as spaces. If I were to add a tracked tag for “missing-e”, it would only ever show me posts tagged “missing e” and none of the ones with the hypen.
A Feature I’d Like, Too: Auto-Tagging Ask Posts
A number of people have been suggesting this feature lately. I figure I should probably post about it so I don’t have to keep saying the same thing over again.
The idea with this feature would be to automatically tag an answer to an ask. Ideally, I’d want to get Missing e to tag the post with the username of the person who asked it. That way, they would be notified via Tumblr’s “Tracked Tags” feature. In addition, I’d want to be able to allow users to specify what additional tags they want added.
This is something I’ve been working at, off and on. So far, unfortunately, I have not come up with a dependable way of doing it. The problem resolves around a number of technical issues, but the foremost is that the way the Tumblr back-end responds to you answering asks is not very useful.
When you answer a post on the “Messages” page, Tumblr sends it along in the background (using something called an AJAX POST request). Unfortunately, the only confirmation that the server sends back to this background handler is the dashboard. It’s the same way as if you posted yourself. Your browser creates the ask post for you, and sends it to Tumblr. Just like when you post, the next screen you see is the dashboard, and you know it got posted!
The trouble I’m having is finding a dependable way to find out the ID number of the post created when you answer an ask. With that, I can use a similar AJAX technique to add the tags in the background for you.
I am continuing to work on it, because this is something I’d love to see in Missing e.
Version 1.0.87: Reblog tags carry over when switching reblog post type
As of version 1.0.87, when you click on the “as…” button to change the type of post to use when reblogging, the reblog tags feature of Better Reblogs should carry the tags over to the new post.
Unfortunately, new releases will be held back on Firefox to await add-on review by Mozilla.
