Tumblr Savior v0.4.2 Released
I fixed an issue with Tumblr Savior v0.4.1 with the match whole words function. It should be working again. I also submitted the Firefox version of Tumblr Savior to the Add-On Gallery but it may be a while before it gets approved, you can keep an eye on it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tumblr-savior/
You can download Tumblr Savior from the following locations:
I know many Firefox users have been itching to have a Tumblr Savior add-on.
Go get it, folks!
The Return of Missing e
It’s back!
After an arduous effort to modify the Missing e extension it is finally ready.
In order to operate amid the obligations set forth by Tumblr’s various agreements and terms, Missing e will no longer interact with the Tumblr API in any way, favouring alternate techniques in order to continue to provide you with almost all of the great features you have come to love.
Please note that it is possible that I may need to continue negotiating with Tumblr if they do not agree with my interpretation of their policies and agreements. If anything should change, I will keep you posted on the Missing e Tumblr blog.
Almost all features unaffected!
The only noticeable difference in how the features work is in Timestamps. Unfortunately, timestamps will no longer be added to posts on the Tumblr dashboard. However, timestamps will continue to be displayed on unanswered ask messages and privately answered asks.
All other features will continue to work as normal, with a couple of exceptions noted below. Please note that features that have been adapted to function without the Tumblr API are not as well-tested. There may be some rough patches, but I will strive to provide timely updates to fix any problems that come up.
Other features fixed!
- The wrap tags feature has been fixed to work with Tumblr’s new tag implementation.
- The Better Reblogs feature will now allow you to control whether or not your tags get reblogged.
Find these and more in the Missing e settings page. Find out how to get there!
Follow Checker and Unfollower no longer available!
The Follow Checker and Unfollower features, though much-loved by many users, will no longer be a part of Missing e. These features were the most significant perpetrators of a technique called “page scraping”, an arguably bad web practice that can strain a website’s server infrastructure.
Neither of these features is likely to return in any form. Please understand that, though useful, these features represent only a small fraction of all the great options available as part of Missing e.
Important Notes
Some of Missing e’s features tweak the way the Tumblr interface is presented to you. However, none of them hide, block or otherwise remove any promotional or informational content intended to be viewed by users.
By downloading, installing, using or continuing to use Missing e, you agree to the terms and conditions set forth in the Missing e End User License Agreement. I cannot be held responsible for any action taken by any other party with respect to your use of Missing e.
Update or Install Missing e
If you currently have Missing e installed and want the new version immediately, DO NOT uninstall and reinstall Missing e, instead read the instructions on how to update:
Firefox users: There seems to be some trouble getting the Add-On site re-enabled. In the meantime, try this direct link: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/128930/missing_e-2.0.0-fx.xpi
New users or users who previously uninstalled Missing e can go to missinge.infraware.ca to install it. Simply click on the logo for the browser you use.

Opera extension API is not fun
From what I can tell, the only way to embed an image into a page from an extension is for the injected script to use a base64-encoded string as the image source.
There appears to be no way to reference an image stored inside the extension to have it load in a page in which an injected script is running.
Does anybody know if there is a not-horrible way to accomplish this?
Working on an Opera extension, but…
The implementation of Opera’s extension API is terrible, and the documentation is even worse.
I need to know how to:
- Get a URL for an image inside the extension to add to a page using an injected script
In Chrome, you can use chrome.extension.getURL(…)
In Safari, it’s safari.extension.baseURI
In Firefox (Jetpack SDK), you can pass the return value of data.url(“”) to an injected script via a message.
At the moment, I have NO idea how to accomplish this in Opera. It is a major barrier to porting Missing e.
Anybody know how to do this?
Today is the first month-iversary of Missing e’s release.
Since it was released, the browser extension/add-on for Tumblr has undergone 25 updates, both minor and major, and been installed over 50,000 times!
In addition to the original features released in Missing e, the last month has seen new and improved functionality:
- Added support for other languages
- Tweaked to play nice with custom Tumblr dashboard styles
- Allow custom setting to decide which dashboard links and buttons open in new tabs and which don’t
- Added replying to notes functionality and quick queue/draft buttons for new posts
- Implemented a fix for Tumblr’s problematic dashboard endless scrolling
- Added new post links for secondary dashboard pages
- Put scroll bars into ask boxes when typing long questions
Currently, we are at version 1.0.69.
The Firefox add-on is currently still at version 1.0.65 until it can be reviewed by Mozilla.
What’s in the works for future release
- Port of Missing e to an Opera browser extension
- One-click reblogging
Many important questions about Missing e and its settings can be answered on the FAQ page.
You can configure Missing e in just about any way you want in the settings. Find out how.

Missing e - {browser extension for tumblr!}
I’m almost done. The Chrome and Safari extensions are complete and finishing up their last bit of testing. The Firefox version will, barring any serious problems, be ready after this weekend. I am also looking to port to Opera in the near (but not immediate) future.
I’m aiming for a release date of March 12 for all three browsers.
What is ‘Missing e’
The ‘Missing e’ browser extension is a large collection of tools and interface improvements for Tumblr that you will absolutely love. It combines all of my Tumblr userscripts (see Cutlerish’s Tumblr Userscripts) with many significant improvements and some brand new features!
STAY TUNED
