Published asks on your dash look like text posts without the answer?

Some users are noticing this issue cropping up in the last few minutes. I just want to assure you that this is not a Missing e problem. There appears to be a Tumblr issue involved.

If you want to check, you’ll find that the problem continues even with Missing e disabled, whether you’ve answered the ask with Missing e enabled or not!

Tumblr Change Prevents Reblogging Asks

Looks like just recently, a Tumblr change has caused reblogging ask posts to stop working.

Instead of the reblog page, a Not Found page is displayed.

This would also prevent ask posts from being reblogged with Quick Reblog as well.

I don’t know if this is a permanent change in Tumblr’s interface, however, or a temporary problem. If it is permanent, the Missing e feature will have to be removed.

Missing e version 2.2.11: Timestamp Fix for Daylight Savings & Reblog Ask Posts

Fix for Daylight Savings in Timestamps

The newest version of Missing e includes a fix for the issue many noticed today with post Timestamps not correctly changing now that daylight savings time has ended.

Reblog Ask Posts

Also, it is now possible to reblog ask posts (sort of).

With this feature active, you’ll now have the ability to reblog Ask posts from the dashboard and permalink pages.

What Missing e will do is to automatically convert the reblog to a text post, with the title being “[username] asked:” followed by the original question, and the answer quoted in the body of the post.

You’ll also be able to reblog Ask posts with Missing e’s Quick (1-click) Reblogging menu!

You can activate this feature in the Missing e settings (find out how to get there) under the Post Features tab, in the Better Reblogs section.

Limitation: When reblogging an Ask post from the post’s permalink page (the individual post page styled with the user’s Tumblr theme), getting the correct username for the asker depends on the user’s theme. If their theme does not display the asker’s username in a standard way (most should), Missing e may have no choice but to assume the asker is Anonymous.

If you want the new version immediately, DO NOT uninstall and reinstall Missing e, instead, read the instructions on how to update:

How do you update?

Firefox users: Until the new version of the extension is reviewed by the Mozilla Add-Ons site, you can update just by installing the new version over top of your existing one, from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/missing-e/versions/. If version 2.2.11 does not appear in the list, you can wait until later, or use this direct link to install: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/136542/missing_e-2.2.11-fx.xpi

Ask Tweaks: A Tutorial

Note that the Ask Tweaks feature used to be called Ask Fixes, but has been renamed on the Tumblr staff’s suggestion that the original name may unintentionally mislead users into thinking that there is something wrong with Tumblr’s inbox implementation.

Some of the best parts of Ask Tweaks are not enabled when you first install Missing e, so I thought I’d post about them.

To activate these options, follow these instructions.

Normally, you can answer asks by publishing them or replying privately. With Tumblr’s standard interface, you can also hold down the “Alt” key to show buttons that allow you to queue or save an answered ask as draft.

If you turn on the options in Ask Tweaks, Missing e simplifies this by adding draft, queue and private buttons to your post options for ask posts. Just hover your mouse over the publish button to get a menu of post options.

In addition, it can also allow you to tag ask posts when you write them. No more posting it and maybe getting around to tagging it later! Missing e’s Ask Tweaks feature can be set up to automatically tag all answered asks with whatever tag you want (such as #ask), and even automatically tag it with the asker’s username (so they can use tracked tags to see when their question is answered). Simply add more tags to the comma-separated list to tag each ask differently as you answer it!

While you are in Missing e’s settings, take a look around as there are neat features that are waiting to be tried out by you!

Thanks to lizzledpink’s earlier suggestion, I may have also worked out how to display timestamps for messages you haven’t answered yet!

Still testing and porting, so please be patient.

Q:Would there be any way to have dates on messages in the ask box?

whaoanon

I’ve had this question asked a fair bit. The answer is, unfortunately: no.

If Tumblr does store date/time information for messages that are unanswered, it does not provide a way to access that info. Therefore, it’s not possible to display timestamps for them!
