Missing e 2.13.3: Some Fixes
I’ve just released Missing e 2.13.3 with a couple of fixes:
- Fix an issue causing some users being unable to create Reply Replies for notes that show up in a post when you click on the notes count
- Safe Dash now hides the new Tumblr videos when enabled
- Fix a problem with multiple checkboxes showing up on messages in your inbox (part of the Ask Tweaks feature)
I wanted to take an opportunity to thank Tumblr user absolutefucker for helping me fix the Reply Replies issue which has been frustrating a bunch of users for quite some time!
Looks like a bug in the Missing e Reply Replies feature popped up today.
Some users are finding that the post Missing e creates when replying to notifications can end up looking a little funny (like in the above screenshot). This only affects Tumblrs who use the rich text editor to write posts, which is likely to be most of you.
Anyway, I’ve fixed the problem in Missing e version 2.4.14, which is available for update!
Thanks to futuresushi for the bug report!
Updating
If you want the new version immediately, DO NOT uninstall and reinstall Missing e, instead, read the instructions on how to update:
***
Firefox users: Until the new version of the extension is reviewed by the Mozilla Add-Ons site, you can update just by installing the new version over top of your existing one from the versions page.
If version 2.4.14 or higher does not appear in the list, you can wait until later, or use this direct link to install.
Want to learn about a couple of lesser-known Missing e features?
There are many features in Missing e that you either don’t notice because they are seamlessly applied to your Tumblr experience or maybe because they are not activated by default and you have to turn them on in the settings.
I’ll highlight four of these for you and maybe try make a habit of this kind of post!
Ask Box on Dashboard
Sometimes you want to send someone an Ask, but you’re in the middle of scrolling back on the dashboard. Or you just don’t want to open a new page or tab! Well, under the Ask Tweaks feature in the Missing e settings, you can activate an option to open ask boxes on the dashboard.
Once this option is activated, simply click on the i icon that shows up on their avatar when you hover your mouse over it. The box that comes up can even be moved around by dragging it with your mouse!
Resizable Editor
Most Tumblr users create new posts in the “rich text editor”. You can see images and links as you put them in and you don’t need to know any HTML. The only downside is that the rich text editor isn’t resizable. It’s fairly small, so long posts or posts with big images are hard to work on!
By default, Missing e’s Posting Tweaks feature will add a resize handle to the rich text editor. To give yourself more room to create your post, just click and drag the resize handle (it looks like a triangle made up of two lines in the bottom right corner of the editor box).
Reblog Long Text Posts
Normally, if you try to reblog a long text post, Tumblr will cause your reblogged post to be a Link post pointing at the original, with the text cut off. You can easily choose to reblog the full text post by clicking the “as…” button at the top of the page, or get Missing e to do it automatically!
Although the option is not activated by default, you can have Missing e always let you reblog long text posts as text by turning it on under the Better Reblogs feature in the settings.
Reply Replies with Photos
Many Missing e users know that you can automatically create reply posts to respond to likes, replies and reblogs of your posts. However, did you know you can also create a “reply reply” with a photo post instead? Simply click the “as…” button at the top of the page to reply with a different kind of post!
Missing e version 2.3.7 is now available!
We’re just now looking at the new Fan Mail feature, so this update doesn’t include changes for it!
This update has a couple of additions, some bug fixes and some modifications to complement Tumblr’s new interface features!
• Reply Replies has a new option to add a 40x40 pixel size avatar in your reply posts (in addition to the available 16 and 64 pixel options) [idea thanks to amethystarcher]
• The Mass Editor Tweaks selection buttons now include a select button for Private posts, as well as a Next 100 button that selects the next group of 100 posts after clicking the First 100 button.
• Now that Tumblr implemented their own functionality to expand and minimize all inline images in a post, I’ve replaced the corresponding Missing e option (part of Dashboard Tweaks) with one that can turn this behaviour off! If you previously changed this option in your current version of Missing e, the updated version will take that into account automatically!
• Style changes on your dash will now update faster than before. Less jittering when you load your dash!
• Missing e will no longer add a button when creating new photo posts to switch back from inputting a URL to uploading images. Tumblr recently implemented this themselves (see third photo in photoset).

Firefox Users: Have you had that problem where Reply Replies posts show up with just the text ‘null’?
If so, Missing e version 2.3.3 is for you!
I’ve significantly modified the way that the Reply Replies feature opens a new post and fills it, so it should no longer cause this problem.

Firefox “tip”: Fixing reply replies that always come out as “null”
So far as I have seen, this is a bug that only very rarely causes problems for users of the Firefox version of Missing e.
Basically, you click on a notification or reply in order to create a new Reply Replies post where you can respond to it.
Only, when the new post page opens, all you get in the body text is:
null
I have not yet found out why this happens, but there is a solution!
Warning! This fix will cause you to lose all of your Missing e bookmarks. Back up your bookmarks before following these instructions.
1) In the Firefox menu, go Tools and click on Clear Recent History…

2) Activate the option “Cookies” (and nothing else), select Everything under “Time range to clear” and click Clear Now.
After this is done, you’ll have to log in to Tumblr again.

Version 1.1.16: Fixing some more kinks (widescreen, replying to photo replies)
I overhauled the implementation of the widescreen feature to solve an issue with some page elements being displayed with huge, unsightly gaps.
It was also pointed out that the Reply Replies feature did not work for photo replies in a post’s notes (that show up when you click the “notes” button on a dashboard post).
Both of these issues are now fixed!
Missing e will update automatically, unless you are on Firefox.
Since Missing e has not yet been reviewed by Mozilla, Firefox users will have to manually update their add-on at this page.
If you are on Chrome and want to force Missing e to update, try the instructions on this site.
If you are on Safari and want to force Missing e to update, open the Extensions pane of Safari’s Preferences, and click the Updates button in the lower-left corner. You’ll get a list of all the extensions that have newer versions available. You can click an individual extension’s Update button or Update All to install all available updates.
Missing e v1.0.86 - No more “disappearing” replies! Probably!
Have you been having trouble when using the Reply Replies feature where, every once in a while, your reply would appear and then immediately disappear?
Well, I think I’ve figured out the problem. More importantly, I’ve fixed it. I’m pretty sure.
If, AFTER you update your version of Missing e to 1.0.86, you still notice this happening, please let me know!
Unfortunately, new releases will be held back on Firefox to await add-on review by Mozilla.
