Missing e 2.12.0: Fix for Magnifier feature
Included in Missing e 2.12.0 is a fix for the Magnifier feature that stopped working earlier today. The fix I’ve implemented is not 100% tested, but I wanted to get something working out to you sooner.
I’ve also made a few other small fixes, including improving the spacing of wrapped tags that was affected by a recent Tumblr change.
Most browsers will automatically update, but if you want the new version now, you can update here: missing-e.com/update

If any Chrome users are having trouble updating, you can use these alternative instructions: How to Manually Force Google Chrome to Update Extensions
Firefox Users
A recent change to the Firefox tools that are used to create this extension have caused Missing e to be no longer be compatible with Firefox versions below 13. I will look into this to see if I can restore backwards compatibility, but it is worthwhile to keep Firefox up-to-date anyway. You should be able to update Firefox from your browser’s menu.
Problems with the Magnifier feature
Looks like a recent change to the Tumblr interface has caused the Magnifier feature not to work for photo posts.
I am currently looking into this problem!
Missing e v2.9.15 Fixes: Smart Redirect, Magnifier for crush avatars
An update just went out the door with a couple of small fixes.
First, I’ve fixed a problem that caused the avatars in your Tumblr Crushes to be unclickable for the Missing e Magnifier feature.
Second, I’ve corrected an issue that caused the new-ish Smart Redirect option in the Posting Tweaks feature to not work properly for some people with only one blog associated with their account.
If you don’t want to wait for the new version to automatically update, you can do so manually by visiting http://missing-e.com/update and following the instructions!
Looks like Tumblr made a neat little change!
Photo posts that link to the full-size photo (not if they link to anywhere else) now maximize without leaving the dash!
There is still plenty of use for Missing e’s Magnifier feature, though, as Tumblr won’t enlarge photos that link to other sites or photosets (that I know of).
Still, it’s nice to know they are tweaking things!
Missing e version 1.5.7 has been released!
If you would like to force your browser to update Missing e, simply follow these instructions.
Firefox users, please note that Missing e will not update automatically until Mozilla has approved the new version. If you want to get 1.5.7 now, simply install from this page!

‘Missing e’ browser extension for tumblr - CUSTOM SETTINGS SERIES
Missing e is highly configurable, so you can choose to enable or disable any of its great features, or customize them to your liking!
To access the settings, see this helpful post.
#3 Magnifier
Find out about this feature in its feature series post.
You’ll find Magnifier in the Dashboard Features tab of the Missing e settings page. It has the following custom setting:
- Number of retries on failure to load image URLs (default 4)
Magnifier (along with Reblog Yourself and Timestamps) uses the Tumblr API to get information. When Tumblr’s API is unresponsive or slow due to overloaded servers on their end, these features may not get the information they need. When they fail, they’ll indicate it with a failure icon (or text) that you can click on to retry. See this post for more information.
During times like this, Magnifier will retry loading a number of times before giving up. Increasing this number means you may encounter fewer failed loads, but it also means that it will take a lot longer before you find out that it isn’t going to load!
The icon that indicates that Magnifier failed to read the Tumblr API looks like this:
- Add magnify buttons to Tumblr avatars (on the dashboard and in follower/following lists)
This option adds a magnify icon to Tumblr avatar images on your dashboard and in follower and following lists. It appears when you hover your mouse over the image. Click the icon to enlarge that avatar image on your screen.
The icon for enlarging Tumblr avatar images looks like this:

#3 - Magnifier
Adds a small magnifying glass icon to photo posts on the dashboard. Click one to view the full-size images without ever leaving the dashboard (see Screenshot 1)
Magnifier will resize the images to fit on your screen, but you can click on the enlarged image to open it in a new tab.
Magnifier also works on photoset posts, allowing you to scroll through all of them!
In addition, Magnifier can add magnify buttons to Tumblr avatars (on the dashboard and in follower/following lists) that you can click on to enlarge the avatar image on your screen (see Screenshot 2).

I added a new feature to Missing E (my upcoming browser extension that is currently in test).
Magnifier will open high-res images from photo and photoset posts without you having to leave the dash!
My wonderful testers are just now starting to try to break this feature so it isn’t fragile by the time it gets to you lovely people.
STAY TUNED!
