Yesterday’s issue resolved and improving my response

It looks like yesterday’s possible issue with the “Delete Selected” button was not actually a problem.

I didn’t mean to scare Missing e users when I posted the warning, but I am committed to keeping you informed and only adding value to your Tumblr experience.

I believed that, though unconfirmed at the time, the issue was important enough to inform users about before I had a chance to verify it.

For future situations, I’m going to work on some tools on my end to make it easier for me to verify major issues more quickly. That way, I won’t post unconfirmed scary stuff.

Thanks so much for all the feedback you guys have given me on this!

Did ‘Missing e’ disappear on your Firefox?

Apparently, Missing e finally being reviewed by the Mozilla Add-Ons site has not been all smiles and sunshine.

Many users have experienced a problem when Missing e was automatically updated for the first time.

People who have had this problem are seeing the features not working, even though Missing e still appears in their Add-Ons Manager.

A solution that seems to work for many people is this:

  1. Uninstall Missing e (instructions here)
  2. Restart Firefox completely (close all your Firefox windows and start it again)
  3. Reinstall Missing e (instructions here)

Note: All of your Missing e bookmarks and Unfollower data are stored in Firefox, separate from Missing e. When you reinstall the add-on, you’ll get those back!

If this solution does not work try uninstalling Missing e, then completely rebooting your computer before reinstalling it. This should ensure that any leftover artifacts of the Missing e extension are purged before it is reapplied.

Post Crushes Issues

I’m looking into it, but at the moment, I have no idea why Tumblr won’t accept Post Crushes images generated by the external server. The generated URL clearly works, you can copy it from the automatically-generated post and open it in a new tab, but it just keeps saying “Error uploading photo”!

In the meantime, you can copy the URL that is automatically generated, load it in a new tab and save the image to your hard drive. Then, upload it (instead of using the URL). It’s a terrible that that is necessary, but it’ll work for now.

Missing e Issue: Firefox Settings
Many of you Firefox users may notice that the settings you choose for Missing e sometimes reset when you reboot your computer.
I’ve got a fix for this issue currently in testing, and will release it in a Firefox-only release, 1.0.62.
For those of you who are interested:
The Jetpack Add-On SDK, upon which the Firefox version of Missing e is built, provides more than one form of add-on persistent storage. Currently, we use simple-storage module to save settings. Apparently, this module does not guarantee persistence across machine restarts. For version 1.0.62+ we will move to using the preferences-service which stores simple data in the about:config settings storage under the prefixed entries: extensions.MissingE.*
